  • H1 Unlimited Driver to be Honored at UIM Awards Gala in MonacoPasco, Wash., January 24, 2012— Rookie driver Scott Liddycoat will be honored early next month at the UIM Awards Giving Gala at the Salle des Etoiles in Monte Carlo, Monaco for his victory at the 2011 Oryx Cup UIM World Championship in Qatar. It’s the first time H1 Unlimited’s Air National Guard Hydroplane Series has been represented at the February 11th event and the perk of winning a UIM World Championship. The Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM) is the world’s governing body for powerboat racing. “I can’t wait to represent the sport at this prestigious event in Monte Carlo,” said Liddycoat, driver of the Valken.com boat. “Anyone I talk to, I want to share with them how great the sport is.” More than 80 world champions representing 25 countries are expected to attend the third annual UIM Awards Giving Gala. Not only does the event honor drivers who won UIM Powerboating World Championships in 2011, organizers will present the UIM Environmental Award and the Stefano Casiraghi Memorial Trophy. “After attending the UIM meetings in Abu Dhabi and seeing firsthand the structure and importance of this worldwide organization, I feel it is important that H1 be represented and our UIM World Champion be recognized along with the other champions who will be in attendance,” said Sam Cole, chairman of H1 Unlimited. “We do, after all, race some of the biggest, fastest boats in the Union Internationale Motonatique.” About 400 dignitaries from the sport, including His Excellency Sheikh Hassan bin Jabor Al-Thani, are expected to attend the gala. Liddycoat is looking forward to seeing Sheikh Hassan and thank him for bring the H1 Unlimited series back to Doha, Qatar, later this year. “I want to thank him for the opportunity and how excited I was to be a part of last year’s event,” said Liddycoat, who lives in Norfolk, Va. “The UIM Awards Giving Gala has developed into a key appreciated UIM event,” said UIM President Raffaele Chiulli. “Our Champions dream during the whole season is to step up on the stage of the Salle des Etoiles in Monaco and our partners and guests are really pleased to honor all together the protagonists of our sport. It is a great effort for our Federation but the 2011 Sport Season couldn't have a more prestigious closingevent.” As a rookie driver, Liddycoat finished third in the 2011 National High Points Championship. In addition to winning the season-ending Oryx Cup, Liddycoat had two second-place finishes and a third-place showing. For more information on the Air National Guard Series, visit www.h1unlimited.com
